No internal cam working on Maverick 10.9 Update

I was able to successfully regain access to my camera using the instructions at http://osxdaily.com/2013/12/27/fix-there-is-no-connected-camera-error-mac/

It basically came down to running a command in the Terminal to kill a process (VDCAssistant) that was "stuck".

sudo killall VDCAssistant

1. Run the command in Terminal.

2. Relaunch the application and use the cam.

Count another annoyed customer here.

This solved my problem.

The same here with my cam since that Maverick Update. It seems so.....one has to delete that new update.... or ? Like I see .....a lot of users have the same problem.....and nobody gives an answer , hm ?

Hi, same problem here on a brand new MacBookPro Retina. After the update 10.9.5 my webcam just disappeared. I tried everything, even the

sudo killall VDCAssistant

but nothing...

Contact your retailer for help with your brand new Mac. He can either: (1) determine whether your new Mac needs repair or replacement, or (2) show you how to make your camera work correctly.

Anyone who has had AirParrot installed before Mavericks will need to completely remove all of its drivers.

There should be similar removal procedures for other wireless extension programs.

I had the same problem with Mavericks: the camera would not work. I had to kill VDCAssistant to be able to use the camera. I re-installed the OS but nothing changed. Yesterday I installed Yosemite AND as I expected the problem persists.

In Mavericks, at least, there is an easier way round the fix for non-techies if you do not wish to use Terminal. Open Activity Monitor, go to Disk (all processes) and scroll down through the open processes until you find the VDC Assistant process. Double click on it and choose Quit, then Force Quit from the next menu. Your camera should now work again.

True, however this is a temporary fix. Apple should give us a more permanent fix.

I have ALL same probs since installing maverick, i have 10.9.5, wish I never did it 😟

I'm having the same problem with a twist. I don't have anything called "VDCAssistant" running. However, I do have VTDecoderXPCService running, which is the closest. Force quitting that did nothing, however. Still saying "There is no connected camera." Is there anyone with any other ideas that may help?

I'm on 10.9.5 and am hesitant to upgrade as others have done so without any fix.

it happened on my pro 2009 model back in 2012... and i TODAY bought a MBA and first thing i checked was the cam.... nada.

CAMERA NOT CONNECTED..

this has happened to BOTH of my macs!!

WHY IS APPLE NOT DOING ANYTHING.

i just shed out $800 today.

i will be back in the store in the morning and returning it.

apple are losing customers like flies by the sounds of it,... their products are now just mass produced and overpriced and 50/50 don't work!
