Can I open and use a .RUF file sent me?

Samsung sent me a firmware update for my DVD recorder that ends in .RUF and I get a screen saying I should choose the application to open it. Have no idea what application. The suffix.com site was no help. Is this like the .exe files that Mac owners continually get because sites don't know we can't use them?

You don't need to open it. You need to copy it to a USB drive or a CD, then insert that into your player.

They should have given you instructions. I couldn't get my blu ray player to accept a USB stick, so I burned it to a CD. Their tech support had to walk me through that.
