airplay from external harddrive

I'm hoping to stream iTunes music stored in a WD Mybook LIve external Harddrive to my phone or appletv so I can play on my stereo. Any thoughts?

That shouldn't be a problem providing the content is listed in iTunes on a computer.

The hope is to access my iTunes library on the external hard drive (WD Mybook LIve 3TB) and be able to stream the music to my phone or appletv (connected to stereo) without going through my computer. Any ideas?
