Favourites not staying in sidebar

Background: Just bought two 27" iMacs and had to install 10.9 on them as it didn't come preinstalled. Used Migration Assistant to pull the data off two TM backups (of older iMac running SL).

On both machines (some) folders we add to Favourites in the Finder Sidebar do not seem to stick. They may/may not still be there after restarting – I would say that 70% of the mornings I need to readd the missing folders back. On my machine it seems to be two specific folders and on my colleagues it is just one specific folder that keeps dissappearing. I have deleted ~/Lib/Prefs/com.apple.finder.plist & com.apple.sidebarlists.plist which doesn't seem to help.

I don't know if this is connected but also (although I don't actually use it) the "All My Files" option doesn't show. Under Finder Prefs > Sidebar the option is checked but it will not show at all even if I uncheck then recheck it? All other options hide/show when I check their check boxes.

Might there be a limit to the number of favourites you can have? I want to have 16 – which was fine on SL?

You can add me to the list of people affected by this.

Exactly the same symptoms and no remedy found. A favorite may stay in the list for a day or two and then suddenly it's gone... until I put it back again.

The folder in particular is a way down the directory structure, so it's a bit of a pain the **** keep having to navigate to it to be honest. That's what favorites are supposed to be for!!!

This has happened to me every time I do a proper reboot since I switched from Windows (which has never had any such problems) to 10.8, still there on 10.9.2. My favourites all point to directories on my NAS that I use all the time. I also don't understand why, after a reboot, I have to double-click on each share on my desktop before Finder will even see it. For the OS that is supposed to just work I find file management fundamentally broken.

I'm not sure how many on this board had the same disappearing Favorites kind of issue I have had, but after doing all sorts of plist deletes, resets, etc. I finally figured out that some combinations of actions can cause the Favorites to be hidden, and when that happen the gray "Show/Hide" options which should appear to the right of Favorites, do not actually show - i.e. until you mouseover that position - at least that is the case with the 10.9.4 Beta version I am now running
