No, if you have Aperture 3 then it's a free update.

As long as it is not an upgrade to a future version Aperture 4.x.x., the update is free from Aperture 3.x.x to Aperture 3.5.1.

Don't you see Aperture 3.5.1 in your list of Purcases or the Updates tab at the AppStore?

Try to change your "language & region" preferences in the System Preferences to "English U.S." and restart your computer. Also make sure, that Aperture is installed in the Applications folder (not in a subfolder of applications) and simply called "Aperture", without any added version numbers.

😠 grrr - again the problem with replies not showing! Sorry, T.D. and Frank!

Does your Aperture version have a Registration number? Do you see "registred to ...." and a serial number in the "About" panel, when you are using the meu command "Aperture > Auout Aperture"? In that case you should still be able to update to Aperture 3.5, if you are signed into the App Store with your Apple ID and Aperture is installed in the correct folder.

If someone else installed an AppStore version for you, using a different AppleID, ask the store, where you bought Aperture for help. They should either update it for you or provide a redeem code for you..

@seved:

That is a VERY good question - as many seems to have this problem.

I also have Aperture 3.4.5 on my brand new MBPr 15" - and cannot find a way to get updates to 3.5.1 as I bought Aperture before App Store came into existance. App Store does obviously not recognize my Aperture program - and no, it does not help to log out'n'in, change language etc. Cannot even find a page where Aperture updates can be downloaded manually.

AARRGGHH!

as I bought Aperture before App Store came into existance.

Many of us bought the boxed retail versions of Aperture 3 in pre-AppStore times, and still they updated without problems to Aperture 3.5., my version for example.

The AppStore is supposed to convert your pre-App Store licence to a new AppStore licence, bound to your AppleID.

For this to happen,

  • you need to be signed in to the AppStore with your Apple ID. Stay signed in. Be patient. For some posters here it took several days for the Aperture Update to appear.
  • Aperture must be installed in the correct location, correctly named, and registered.
  • And there seems/seemed to be a problem with the European AppStores. Switching the main system language and region to English/US and rebooting seems to have helped many forum members from non-US countries to get the update done.

Is there a link for the Aperture 3.5 or 3.5.1 update in the downloads section

No , there is not, because the update has to be done through the AppStore. As I explained above, the update will transfer your licence to an App Store licence and ty it to your Apple ID. That's why you cannot do it by simply downloading an update installer. If you cannot see the update at the App Store, check at

MyAppleID https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/

if tere are any issues with your AppleID, security questions, password, verification email, etc.

And check the other points, that I mentioned in my previous post.

Hello,

Many years ago I bought Aperture on DVD.
I've always done the upgrade via Aperture.
Now it is no longer active the chance to do the upgrade via appstore.
I do not see Aperture in the appstore as one of the applications you have purchased.
How to upgrade from 3.4.5 to 3.5.1?
I followed your suggestions without success.
I apologize for my bad english writing.
Thanks and regards

How to upgradefrom3.4.5to3.5.1?

Have you already upgraded to Mavericks MacOS X 10.9? Aperture 3.5.1 requires Mavericks.

If you have checked everything, listed in my answer here: Re: Must I buy Aperture 3.5.1 to upgrade from 3.4.5

try, if your AppleID is working correctly by trying to buy a free app from the AppleStore . Does your AppleID work for purchases at all?
