Q: I updated my phone this morning and now it is stuck with an iTunes logo and arrow pointing to it and a pic of the power cord - the phone was plugged in when I started the update...now I can't access my phone at all

My phone is plugged in and the screen shows the power cord connector and arrow and the iTunes logo.  I have made sure the plug is in and power on. Touching the screen does nothing. I have turned it off and back on I get an apple pic then back to the iTunes logo pic, arrow and plug....

I wanted to add to the tech's resources about the fix I resolved. Particularly because the last 3 techs couldn't fix my issue: iTunes would not read the iPhone 5c after the 7.0.4 installation causing the phone to become stuck with the iTunes logo and the power cable shown below it. Reinstalling iTunes won't help.

My 64bit Windows 7 PC comes came with new fancy USB3 ports and one USB2 port. I remembered that some of my older devices would not always work in the USB3 ports.

I resolved it by trying a different USB2 type port and could successfully restore the phone with the 7.0.4 update.

Alright some steps for you to take buddy!

1 turn off your iPhone with the cable plugged in.

2 once off, press the power button for 10 seconds

3 press home and hold for a further 5 seconds

4 a little pop up should come up on your computer saying "installing drivers (dfu)"

5 go into iTunes and it should say "iPhone detected in restore mode, would you like to restore?"

6 click yes after that and let it do it's thing :)

    hi,

I can not seem to get this option to work, if I push power button it turns off then straight back on with message to connect to iTunes.

Does not let me press other button before this happens.

I installed new update and have had the connect to iTunes all day.  I got home connected to iTunes and it said my phone couldn't be updated it needed restored to factory settings.  I was reluctant to lose everything so I ignored this and clicked update.  After it installed it said to restore again.  Again I ignored it and this time it updated my phone and my phone turned back on with everything there.

So glad I ignored the previous messages asking me to restore! You could try this if you have iTunes and don't want it restored to factory settings.

I am having the same problem but my phone will not turn off. When I hold the power button to turn it off, it pops back up on recovery mode and something pops up on my computer that says,"your iPhone can't be updated it must be restored to factory settings" I hit restore and then it brings me to another window to "restore and update" but the error occurs again in the update and I am back where I started. The dfu never appears

Did you try a hard reset? Press and hold the home and power buttons at the same time For maybe 10 or so seconds. It sounds like the phone thinks the USB cord is disconnected, so make sure it is connected securely and that the cord and ports aren't damaged. It may be a problem on the computer too, so try restarting the computer. If none of that works you may want to try to schedule an appointment at the Apple Store.

I had the same problem with the iphone turning itself on and showing the usb cable icon arrow and itunes pic. I tried the hard reset mentioned here, to no avail. Then I disconnected from my laptop (windows 7) and made sure the itunes was the latest update. then I turned off my firewall. Plugged phone in again, and the same message came up to upgrade or restore. I ignored restore, choosing to upgrade and this time it worked! Maybe it was the firewall (McAfee). Brilliant! Thanks to all who made suggestions, hope this helps.
