ios 7.0.4 Update battery issue again!

I just did the update and after I unplugged from charging overnight my battery drained over 50% in a 1/2 hour on standby!!!! Why does this garbage continue to happen? Anyone else having this issue. FYI, before update I had everything turned off to save battery life so no stranger to the ios7 battery issue but thought it was not going to happen with an update.

The solution that worked for me was "reset all settings". Having experienced these issues since OTA install of 7.0.4:

High rate of battery drain (~5% every 10 minutes)

Unusually hot phone

After doing this my 5s started cooling down and will probably be back to normal battery usage after next recharge. If the battery drain is present my theory is that the iPhone will not charge as efficiently even if it shows 100% battery. Another interesting detail was that after the reset I had an unsent message badge on the messages app, but when I opened it there was no unsent messages.

I think we have to wait ios 7.0.5.

The issue persists even when i put my Iphone 4S in plane mode (the services continue tu run even in that mode).

i went to an Apple Store in Strasbourg,France.

They don't know anything about that issue.

I had to wait 2 hour to see a technician for a diagnosis or take a appointment with maybe an invoice at the end.

I think that no setting will fix this issue.

I look forward to Christmas hoping Santa Claus brings me a solution 😁

Same problem here. And it's draining so quickly that it's taking absolutely forever to recharge. I've always read about people having battery drain problems and considered myself lucky that I never experienced it. Until today... This really makes the phone useless to me as I can't just leave it on a charger all day long. Not to mention I'd be afraid to as the battery is really, really warm.

*Disclaimer* this may or may not work for your phone but I have personally gotten things sorted out so I am happy with my battery consumption now. (seems to be back to normal)

If you are still on lower versions of the iOS and are happy with your phone, upgrade at your own risk. Results may vary.

NOTE: I wish I was still on 6.1.3 Jailbroken than anywhere in iOS 7.

I will detail the things I have done with my phone and you can follow what I have done. (This is not a Jailbroken Phone as there is no Jailbreak available for 7.0.4) If you have a jailbreak at an earlier version and wish to maintain your Jailbreak, DO NOT UPGRADE!

1. Upgraded my phone from 7.0.2 to 7.0.4 using over the air upgrade through 3g. (It is HIGHLY recommended to upgrade your phone through iTunes by cable instead of using over the air. I just did it this way. Upgrading by cable through iTunes is much more stable than Over the Air.)

2. After upgrading, I experienced very very bad battery life. 4 hours or less and the battery would go from 100% to less than 20%.

3. SETTINGS:

a. Go to Settings - General - Reset - Reset All Settings: This will not delete any of your data on your phone. Pictures, contacts, notes, etc will all be intact. This will basically reset all wifi and other settings back to default settings.

b. Turn off the following unless needed.

- Wifi, bluetooth, Personal Hotspot,

- Under Cellular, I always leave LTE off. LTE is not yet widespread in Manila and the act of searching for LTE all the time is a very significant battery drain.

c. Turned off

- Under PRIVACY - Location Services: on the bottom you will find System Services. I basically only left ON Compass Calibration and Wifi Networking. Everything else is OFF. (I will experiment with these items one by one in the near future to see how much it affects battery life but as for now I have turned many of them off)

- I have also turned off Frequent Locations.

- Under Settings - General

- Siri - Turn this off unless you like voice dictation and use Siri services. (I only turn it on as needed as I find voice dictation useful at times.)

- Background App Refresh - I turned off most of the apps that I do not use frequently. Personal Preference although it doesn’t seem to affect much battery life.

- Date and Time - Set Automatically - Turned off

- Settings - iTunes & App Store - Most items in this setting I have turned off. This is useful if you Purchase music, Apps, Books, on iTunes and App Store on multiple devices. Apps, Music, Videos, and Books will download automatically to all your devices that are registered under the same Apple ID.

d. Brightness set to about 25% - This is personal preference. Set brightness to the lowest setting that is still viewable and comfortable for you.

After having done all of these settings, my phone is now back to normal battery consumption which is good for 8-12 hours standby. (depends on if you are a heavy user)

Other resolved issues:

- Mass text no longer crashes under 7.0.4 and I can now text 50+ people again.

Overall this iOS update seems to be more stable with less glitches.

Good luck with your phones and hope this helps.

Went to the Apple store today and was told that the solution to the battery drain issue is to restore as a new phone. I've already done that, but figured since that's the only fix they're suggesting, it's the only one I'm going to get, and since I tried it while on 7.0.2 (or it might've been .3; I've done so many resets and restores and re-everything's now I forget), maybe it would work with 7.0.4.

So far, no dice. After 1 hour use, battery's at 75%. I only reloaded a few frequently used apps, my contacts, email accounts and a couple of lists I frequently reference in Notes (all the reloading was done while the phone was still plugged in, so that didn't run the battery down). Didn't turn on iCloud. Did leave location services, Bluetooth, cell data, background refresh, etc., switched on. Wanted to see how it performed without adjusting all those. Since all this started, none of that's really seemed to have much effect, but I'll try switching it off again, letting the battery run down to dead, charge it back up to 100% without using, power it off and back on. If none of that helps, I'll restore as new again and not reload any apps or anything else and see what happens.

Note: anyone who chooses to try the restore as new phone option needs to keep in mind that you'll lose everything "not factory standard". Photos, contacts, notes, calendar appointments, reminders, text messages, etc., etc. So do whatever you have to do to save all that stuff elsewhere and make sure it's saved elsewhere before you go ahead with it. Email it to yourself or whatever's applicable, and really think twice about trying this if you're close to getting a new phone. It might be easier to deal with the crappy battery life for a little while than to re-input all this stuff--unless there's some easier way of doing it. If someone knows of one, please advise.

I've just fixed my massive battery drain which had only started after the 7.0.4 update.

I did as others have advised but it wasn't as drastic as I'd expected it to be.

First I backed up the phone to iTunes and then did a complete reset of everything. I'd thought I would be fine starting fresh with an 'as new' device so I elected not to restore and went with a clean start.

The phone looked so bare and I couldn't face the mountain of setting up the email accounts and finding the apps again so I did another reset and this time went for a restore from iTunes.

After it came back on the email accounts were there but there were no apps, then I realised it was downloading more data from iTunes; music, apps etc. so I just left it to it and came back a few hours later to find everything back where it was.

Before the phone had been getting very hot but I've just gone a whole 5 hours and it's cold to the touch and still showing 100% so I'm hopeful that it's now cured.

There must have been some rogue process running which has now been killed; these things are computers and I don't blame Apple when a fluke error happens to a random selection of devices, it can't be easy to remedy ever problem with a global fix but at least the backup and restore option is there as a last resort.

While it's appreciated when people make suggestions as to what to turn off, I don't believe they truly understand the problem some of us are having. This is not simply an issue of reducing battery drain by turning off certain services. There is something much deeper going on. Even before this update I was pretty limited on what I had running (i.e. no push, no auto app updates, parallax turned off, etc.) Before this update I could basically expect to charge my phone overnight and use it periodically throughout the day. I would sometimes charge it in my car on my 50 minute ride home from work just for a boost that evening. After this update, with no changes made except for the update itself, the battery is draining automatically by approximately 20% every hour. It's not a setting issue, it's an operating system/software issue.

I'm currently finishing a Restore, hoping the downloading of the 7.0.4 again will somehow fix this issue but I don't have high hopes. I'll pop back in here and let everyone know what happens...
