Nov 15, 2013 10:32 AM in response to deggieby Peter Reznikoff,Thanks. I assume this will prevent skipping. I was walking around the other day with the iPod in my pants pocket and because of the movement it changed songs

Apr 12, 2014 7:29 AM in response to deggieby rjbinney,Yes, but "Sleep"<> "Lock".
Is there a way to prevent the new iPods from accidentally getting turned on, when in, say, a suitcase or briefcase?
I really miss the 5.

Apr 12, 2014 9:02 AM in response to rjbinneyby deggie,Unless you are leaving the iPod loose in the briefcase or suitcase it should never come on, mine never has.
Hold down the sleep button and you will see the spinning cog, let go and it will not come back on without holding down the sleep button.

May 23, 2014 11:52 AM in response to deggieby vacmt,Still, display sleep <> lock.
When working out, or using a silly armband, accidently tapping or double tapping the play/pause button on the ipod nano itself, or the headphone, can happen alot, and can be very annoying, especially when listening to an audiobook/podcast.
It would be nice to disable the individual play/pause actions.
Play/pause
-Single click (off/on)
-Double click (off/on)
-Triple click (off/on)
-Hold click (off/on)

Jul 15, 2014 7:18 AM in response to deggieby matth4900,Agree with other posters. Sleep is a totally different animal than lock. I too was working out and this was an issue. Shuffle is off and with no real way to listen to your music and DISABLE buttons, songs can arbitrarily skip. This is a step in the wrong direction. I still have my first gen. I hit the switch, and voila! I'm sure the lock-screen issue could be mitigated with a software upgrade. I'll hold my breath.

Jul 24, 2014 2:29 AM in response to matth4900by greensideknits,Completely agree; I've eventually got exasperated enough with the iPod switching from music shuffle to podcast, and from shuffle to single-repeat... the sleep function works to a certain extent but not for the volume controls which get knocked in a pocket or handbag... Really disappointing; this is the worst iPod I've had of the 4 Shuffles/Nanos from the point of view of being able to use them on the move.

Mar 8, 2015 5:49 PM in response to tong neeby marifleur08,A button to lock the screen would work well if everything (play/pause, volume...) could only be done with the screen and nothing else. But there're buttons you feel when touching it with your fingers, and no other button to lock them.

Nov 11, 2015 10:06 PM in response to marifleur08by Conan93,Aloha ! It's now NOV 2015 & I find no 'Yes" or 'No' answer to the original question in this string of answers: Does the ipod nano 7 have a 'lock' button/swithch/setting that keeps the device from jumping songs whenever the device is jostled, shaken (or stirred) diring the user's normal movements in a gym?
If not, might I suggest that the ipod 'Make it Better Team' staff the team with some developers that work out in a gym. It is beyond my 2-dijit iq to imagine how a gym-junkie developer would tolerate this haphazard song-jumping during a serious workout. Unless it was designed that way to develop my Zen powers of concentarion. In which case - job well done,

Dec 21, 2015 7:08 PM in response to deggieby travel2165,To deggie:
Shaking is _not_ the issue here. Even if Shake is disabled, my iPod Nano still switches songs if I touch the volume-pause buttons, or if I accidentally tap the touch screen in the "wrong" place."
There is no way to LOCK a particular song in place so that it NEVER changes while it's being played. The buttons on the iPod Nano 7 guarantee that trying to put the player in a shirt pocket after changing songs will probably switch to ANOTHER song because my fingers have grabbed the machine in the wrong places. It's very frustrating.
