deleted mail keeps on staying in account

deleted mail keeps on staying in account

I keep on deleting emails and emptying the bin but it stays in there! what can I do?

PowerBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

In Snow Leopard, OS X 10.6.8, deleted emails are erased within the Mail program, not the Trash Bin.

Mail, Mailbox, Erase Deleted Items, In All Accounts...

NOT ILLUSTRATED ABOVE -- You can also select email accounts individually, and erase deleted items, if you have more than one account.

That is what I do but ut doesnt delete fir good! it keeps coming back

Hello Ellen

Check your Mail Preferences > Accounts (your account) Trash : and have selected 'Move deleted messages to the trash mailbox', and have 'Permanently delete messages' to a setting other than Never. See how that works,
