cat eats cord

Please help. Don't know what Mac is using to make their cords, but its the ONLY cord my cat chews on. I've gone through THREE!!! My husbands says "one more time and the cat is gone!" :-( please help. I've cover it with hot sauce/water mix and let it dry but she chewed it anyway. UG!

Clearly a highly intelligent, discerning cat that knows quality when it tastes it! 😀

There are a number of ways that the cord can be protected from the cat (and of course the cat from electric shock):

Thread it through a copper pipe or plastic hose. Or possibly one of those spirally things you use for keeping telephone cables untangled.

Spray the cord with WD40.

I will see if other cat lovers here have any bright ideas! 🙂

Thanks for all these suggestions. I just dowsed the cord with WD40, but am thinking everytime I touch it, my fingers will be oily. Might help clean up the cat fur on the floor though - LOL!!

I really like the curly telephone cord idea - going to look for that. Sounds "non-toxic" :-)

Deodrant sounds good too. I've tried the cat-repell stuff on my furniture and she didn't even notice. Little brat!

Thanks again!

You're getting off easy - my cat jumps into any sink that has water running, comes into the shower with me, gets wet, then dries herself off after we both exit the shower and thinks that my carpets are scratching posts. I can't break her of the habit, and my Persian rugs are getting shredded. No matter, I love her anyway.

@MGW

My cat also thinks our Persian rugs is his personal scratching posts. Never could break him out of this habit. Luckly, he's declawed.

My cat loves to swim in a bathtub full of bubbles. He jumps in, swims around snapping at the bubbles, jumps out & spends hours grooming himself off. Reason why there is a sign on the bathroom door---KEEP CLOSED! 😁

Remember the swimming cat that was on the old TV series Beverly Hillbillies?

Hi I have two cats. Only one of the two eats ONLY apple cables. At the moment the death list counts: two earphone cables, one powermac charging cable (the thin part, not the thick one that can be removed), an Iphone 5 charging cable, an Iphone 3gs old charging cable. (Plus a nintendo Wii sensor cable and a nintendo Wii U gamepad charging cable). Our house is full of cables but only these have been touched. I have just bought some non-original cables also because they come in a color that's not white/light grey.

All suggestions are welcome. (I have no idea what is WD40)

Here's an idea. How about if Apple makes the charger cord a bit sturdier? My cat has ruined them with just one nip. I'm on my third. Finally found a fine little coil made for this purpose (imagine! There's a demand for this!) that took me forever to wrap around the cord but seems to be doing the job so far.

Sorry to imply that an Apple product's design is anything less than perfect, but there you are. There are plenty of complaints out on the web about the flimsiness of these things, including many, many instances of pets biting them.

Another answer would be to bring down the price on these suckers. Hard to believe it really costs $60 (as I recall) to make one.

Ok, I have the same problem, and a working solution but not perfect. I think it has to do with the "nice" high quality feel of the rubbery cord.

I was hoping to get a better system than the one I currently have. No luck so far but this is the only thing that has worked for my cats issues.

I got collars and base units anywhere is needed, all my apple cables (computer, iPhones, iPads) have been protected for several years. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00062F6HE?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_act_t itle_2&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Still looking though as every so often someone leaves a cord resting peacefully somewhere else and bam! ... no more cord.
