I am running out of storage space on my MacBook Air. I need to store my video clips on an external hard drive. But I see no way in the new iMovie to do this. Any ideas, please?

iMovie stores your Events and Projects into a Library, and that's usually located in your home folder under Movies:
This library can be picked up and moved to your external drive. Then in iMovie just open it by going to File Menu->Open Library->Other
After that iMovie will remember which Library to open the next time you need to launch the program.
