Q: Finder has Become Really Slow
System/Finder and all other actions are delayed - very slow.
OS10.7.5 Lion
Model Name: Mac Pro
Model Identifier: MacPro1,1
Processor Name: Dual-Core Intel Xeon
Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz
1-TB Seagate Barracuda Drive with 60% free space
Microsoft Office 2011: Build 14.3.8
Norton Antivirus version 11,1,2
Startup has become very slow, and some desktop icons are translucent, but after I "Get Info" the icons appear correctly. Sometimes [but not always] the dock does not appear at the same time as the rest of the desktop during Startup, it appears after everything else has completed [i.e., all icons have been written to Desktop, animation for an open folder, etc.); but if I restart one more time then the 2-D dock appears at the same time as everything else in the window.
Also, launching an application has become very slow, and even after launch it opens documents very slowly. For example, after I launch Word and it appears to have launched completely, it may take several seconds before it will start to launch a document AFTER I double click the file. While in a Word document, I will type text but nothing happens for a few seconds, THEN the text types?
The Finder will show the spinning beach ball for most tasks.
What I have tried:
- executed Maintenance v1.5.6 scripts (Titanium) to clean all cache, etc.
- reinstalled OS 10.7.5
- repair disk but nothing was damaged
- repair permissions
- restart from login to prevent startup items from launching
Other actions I have taken that may be causing a problem but I don't know:
- Use Cocktail for some tasks
- Use Lion Tweaks to get rid of the Leather look in iCal and Mail, enable 2-D Dock, and show Library.
Note: After completing the tasks above and reinstalling OS 10.7.5, the Finder is still really slow
Anybody have any suggestions?
Thank you in advance for your advice.
