In addition to what CCTM explained so well above:
Peter, you were originally looking at settings for channel strips. Now you've found the place to load Logic's own plus 3rd party instruments. As you see, they are sorted by Manufacturer and not the name of the plugin, which is good to remember.
Also, you can open and save settings for each particular instrument (or effect), once selected. If you click to the left of a slot (eg Instrument) you'll see a little blue triangle appears. This shows that the focus is on that slot and Logic's Library panel will show all of the settings available.
So, if you have the blue triangle next to the top slot, the Library will show Channel strip settings. If you have any MIDI FX loaded and you click next to that slot, the Library will show the settings for the selected MIDI FX, and so on.
