Line on desktop with icons below it

probably not because when it appears tapping on anything else makes it disappear

also, i dont know what it is i need to do to make it appear

This is not a fault, folks, it is not a screen fault or anything like that ... this is a feature of Mac OS... i have seen this same thing appear from time to time in different versions of the OS, mavericks included.

I have the up to date version of mavericks.

as per my previous description, it is a thin line appears from one side to the other and a few little icons appear below it

yes if i do whatever it is again by accident and if i can screenshot it I will

it has been baffling me for two years

even the Apple agents i have spoken to dont know what it is but it most definitely a feature of some kind and totally 100 per cent not an error

no, f12 is volume and fn f12 doesnt appear to do anything at alll
