I also tried the update to 7.0.4 this morning and it would not install. I contacted Apple support and they were wonderful but the bottom line is that my iPad is trashed.

We reset the iPad and connected it my computer to do the update. The woman I spoke with in tech support gave me her direct line and once the update was complete (took about an hour) I called her back. We spent a good amount of time trying to figure out why I kept getting an error message that my iPad was an undetected device.

After a total of two hours on the phone this morning, I am sending my iPad back to Apple and they are going to send me a replacement. Just got it in late August so it is barely 3 months old.

Very frustrating and I sure feel for anyone who experiences this problem after their iPad warranty has expired.  BTW, I updated my iPhone this morning (before I updated the iPad) without any issues.  Go figure.

Upgraded to 7.0.4 and now it constantly resets in the middle of whatever it is I'm doing. I just got finished redownloading the update and reinstalling. Just got finished readding all my apps. Still resets (this time I was just organizing my icons)

Error -1 or error 1 is the same thing.

Every feature on my ipad worked until I clicked update... their software crashed my ipad and they will want to charge me 400 dollars to repair it.... Im sure thats illegal... I will check with consumer protection agency in the morning... so unfair...

The link I posted merely shows you what error 1 means, all the rest are your own conclusions.

Looking at this discussion, you have done so many things on your iPad that no one knows what state the device is in anymore.

Error messages are of paramount importance, as without them, no accurate analysis of the problem can be accomplished.

I have done what apple suggested with each error message...The page that has all the errors told me what to do each time... first a recovery then terminal to put a # in front of the apple number then a dfu with install of os , nothing worked but they were all what the apple page suggested with each error i was getting....

Is there still any life at all in your iPad?

Just the apple pic and then connect to iTunes pic with iTunes logo and USB cable pic... That's all I've seen since 7.0.4 update

Okay, it seems as though your iPad is in recovery mode.

What happens when you follow the following instructions?

    Restore via recovery mode:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

Please note any error messages and report them here.

it says unable to update...It only gives the option to update and restore....the update is what crashed it to begin with.....

I've got a question... it started the update then crashed and got stuck in recovery mode...I'm going to stick this on ebay for sale )non-working) for parts..... can the person that buys it get my data if they can get it working...I need to sell it so I can buy me one that works... I refuse to update ever again....
