Q: Numbers update, quick fill missing

In the new numbers update, my cells won't auto fill anymore with what I had previously typed. Is there away to get that back? I used that everyday.

    Hi mamadena,

Apple now calls that "auto-complete text in cells". It's not in Numbers 3.0 but according to this support document will be brought back in one of the releases over the next six months.

    Meanwhile ...

If you frequently enter repeating values in a column you could consider formating the cells as Pop-Up Menu:

    pop-up-choose-format.png

If you've selected the whole column before formatting as Pop-Up Menu, your existing values in that column will pre-populate a menu automatically:

    pop-up-format-column.png

Then you remove the values you don't want in the menu, such as the column header (and quite possibly some previous spelling and capitalization inconsistencies too!):

And after this easy one-time setup all you have to do thereafter is to choose from the pop-up list for that column whenever you add rows:

    pop-up-choose.png

That's all there is to it!

There's no keyboard shortcut to activate the menu such as they had in the old Numbers (I hope they'll add one) but the Pop-Up Menu approach has some advantages over autocompletion: no spelling inconsistencies or lack of capitalization when there should be capitalization, etc.

See this workaround thread for this and other ways to work with Numbers 3.0.

Just incase I am not clear...In the older version there was "auto-completion" and now I can't find how to turn it on. I'm very frusterated with the new numbers and pages.

In Numbers 2.3 I think it's that middle checkbox, in Numbers>Preferences>General.

Thanks but, that could help some but sometimes I rely on it as a search as well, to see I put someones name down in a specific list. But it is good knowing that they might bring it back in few months.

    Mamadeda,

I believe SGIII provided the answer.  Not what you wanted to hear, though.  It is gone right now in Numbers 3.0 but should return within six months.

sometimes I rely on it as a search as well, to see I put someones name down in a specific list.

It's a little more trouble, but a lookup can quite easily tell you whether someone is on the list or not:

The formula in column B of the 'On list?' table is =VLOOKUP(A,Name,1,FALSE)

If you type a name in column A of 'On list?' that is not in the 'Name' column of the 'List' table, you get a bright red triangle.
