I know this will sound like a silly question to pretty much everyone, but... here goes. I have the 2012 MB Pro with the regular hard drive and optical disk drive. Now, I know that the hardware was supposed to be updated to be the same as the retina SSD model, but... are my ports really USB 3?
Here is my reason for doubt: USB 3 ports are supposed to be blue. Mine aren't.

You should look item #4 of http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5172?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
The blue inserts is a convention, but it is not actually required as part of the USB 3 specifications, so not all manufacturers use them.
Even if it was part of the spec Apple would not put a blue connector on their laptop.... unless the laptop matched the blue color that is.
