Nov 28, 2013 4:10 AM in response to Morgan123456by MrZeebo,I have FiOS (in the Boston area) and am experiencing this problem. So FiOS isn't immune, but it is interesting that you aren't seeing the problem where you are.

Nov 28, 2013 7:00 AM in response to Vandergraffby ericfromin,I dont think you can compare chromecast to atv because you airplay, i can airplay from my imac to atv from netflix & looks pretty good, but only can get 3000 kbps on my imac running osx with down load speed at 58mgb.

Nov 28, 2013 7:29 AM in response to ericfrominby NonDairyKramer,Bought a Roku 3. Netflix streaming is substantially better, plus I like the interface better. The only thing I like better about the ATV is the ability to use airplay, however, I don't think it's something I would have used that often. Returning the ATV. Shocked the Roku is so much better, apple really needs to let developers control the interface like Netflix does on other platforms.

Nov 28, 2013 8:37 AM in response to DustyStormby mh1978,As I suspected, its 10:30am and I just got a solid 1050kbps. Definitely better than what I have been seeing for the past two weeks, but no 5800kbps. I will keep updating today.
Unfortunately this seems like a peak usage type of situation. For comparison, I got slightly better results for the Roku at 1750kbps, so no full uncompressed HD either. In all, other than updating with my speed findings and looking for anyone who is having this issue on an Open Connect ISP I'm throwing my arms up in the air...

Nov 28, 2013 9:58 AM in response to DustyStormby DustyStorm,Well here's an update.
Went to my brother's house and this same issue is occurring on his PS3. He says it has been for awhile. He uses a different ISP than me. So I do think this is a Netflix problem. I will be getting a Roku 3 to try out in the next week or so but I don't think it will make a difference.

Others have reported, either in this thread or another one in this forum, that they have experienced the problem cross platform and others have reported it being intermittent. So far I haven't seen anything that proves the MacWorld article and the article to which it links to be wrong.
Also, I have read reports that people who have not upgraded their ATV have had the same problem.
Yes, people have reported cross-platform issues. And others haven't. Any streaming model will be subject to the vagaries of the connecting network. But how can it be a source (Netflix) bandwidth problem when I can interleave sessions and always get superHD on my TiVo and almost never get superHD on my ATV? Yes, someone needs to upgrade, start having the problem, downgrade and stop having the problem to increase confidence it's a new Apple or Apple+Netflix specific problem however I haven't seen any credible evidence that it's not.
Most people don't know how or don't have the tools to make a rigorous comparison between devices. E.g. someone observed a high ping time to Netflix and thinks that has some relationship to streaming performance.
By the way, when doing comparisons you should make sure your devices are talking to the same content farm. In my case I often connect to something in the 108.175. netblock like 108.175.43.135 (but of course that's dynamic). This is after various connections to Amazon Web Services systems among other things at startup which I assume are used for management and authentication.

Nov 28, 2013 10:36 AM in response to DustyStormby Getting tired of Apple,Still having the issues with the quality on Netflix with the apple tv. But, has anyone else noticed that certain titles won't even load up?
Can someone try to play "Leave it to Beaver" the original series, on the Netflix app on apple tv? For the last three weeks, when I try to play this or two other titles that are in my list, I get the following error:
We're having trouble with this title right now. Please try again later or select a different title.
(ATV-ui511:atv/nextGPS2/mdp)
These titles were playing fine right before the streaming problems occured. BTW, these title play fine on every other device. (pc, iphone, ipad, samsung smart TV)

Nov 28, 2013 11:12 AM in response to Getting tired of Appleby Hankfromnh,I tried playing the original "Leave it to Beaver" on my ATV. Worked fine. I have had the same problem you described. What I had to do was remove the title from my list and then re-add it. This had happened to a few titles that were in my list.
Speaking of other newly introduced issues. . . I've noticed in recent weeks that text in TV shows (Burn Notice) has been replaced with yellow subtitle captioning.

Nov 28, 2013 11:20 AM in response to DustyStormby mcraiganthony,Last night I watched 4 episodes of Tudors on my Apple TV (wireless) and was pleasantly surprised. Got HD about 90% of the time which is considerably better than it has been.

The Chromecast doesn't use Airplay. The Chromecast device connects directly to the Netflix servers (just like other netflix streaming devices). The IOS / Android device is onlu acting as a remote control (and the Apple TV is of course not involved). This is well documented and I can also see it on my router with the Chromecast making direct connections to the servers serving the Netflix streams.
The Chromecast is a perfectly valid comparison and continues to get 5800 kbps while the Apple TV (for the last two weeks) continues to limp along.

Nov 28, 2013 11:45 AM in response to Vandergraffby Robin Edwards,Apple TV issue all the way. Using a DNS server in the uk to access us netflix, I get 100% perfect 5800kbps on my samsung BD Player.
I wonder if it's in apples interest to fix the issue quickly?
