The article doesn't seem to be particularly informed - just some speculation like many posts here.

Dec 1, 2013 7:06 PM in response to DustyStormby SlamSlam,Same issue for me right after updating to 6.0.2
AppleTV 3
6.0.2
Comcast
Ethernet & Wireless N 5ghz tested
I get 50MB down. After the update, Netflix quality was horrible. I noticed it right away.
Hopped onto my Playstation 4 and Netflix quality on that system is as expected, so it's not a bandwidth or time of day issue for me. Something related specifically to AppleTV and Netflix.

Dec 1, 2013 7:43 PM in response to DustyStormby Ericmcc89,Apple please fix this problem!!! It's between you and netflix! it's not coincidence that a couple hundred people on this forum are have very very similar if not exact symptoms! Most if not all this discussion revolves around problems after 6.0.2. update. I have called and addressed this issue countless times bringing it to apples attention. I can AirPlay through my ipad and iPhone just fine and watch netflix with great quality but like people have said in comments prior to this one, that defeats the purpose of this Apple TV! I still have a case open involving this issue and being the type of person I am and payed for quality that's what I expect. we also know that apple reps read these forum discussions and are aware of this issue. I have tried every thing possible to solve the growing "horrible netflix video quality" issue. I never had a single problem with netflix on atv3 until 6.0.2. update. PLEASE ADDRESS THE ISSUE APPLE! This is not an end user problem. Not a connection issue by any means. This is strictly an apple/Netflix/software problem!

Dec 1, 2013 7:52 PM in response to DustyStormby lclee1,IDK what's going on. Today we noticed awful quality on all Netflix streaming through Apple TV. We updated software, with no improvement. Our download speed is 23 mbps. When using the Example Film, streaming starts at 750 kbps with res 512x384, then quickly changes to 235 kbps with res 320x240. Everything is unwatchable.

Dec 1, 2013 8:24 PM in response to DustyStormby Sparty07,Noticed a change tonight. Been having the same problem as everyone else for the past 2 ish weeks. Still running an ATV3, software 6.0.2, wired connection to 30 mbps Comcast internet. At around 9 pm local in central Illinois (peak time as I would consider it) Netflix is streaming natively on my ATV at 3850 on the example short. Its not Super HD but its back to 1080 resolution, and it actually starts at 720 now and ramps up from there. My iPad air is still stuck at 235 for whatever reason, but at least the ATV is back in HD territory. Not sure if this clears or muddies the waters but I thought I should share.

Dec 1, 2013 9:23 PM in response to DustyStormby mrjspence,I'm in north Colorado experiencing the same issues everyone has reported. I have xfinity 40 Mbps and speed tests always have me close to that.
Netflix works fine on Roku, PS3, iPad just not appleTV
I'm fully up to date with software.
On the appleTV all other apps work fine. Hbogo is perfectly clear HD, etc.

Dec 1, 2013 9:37 PM in response to Sparty07by ericfromin,Im in indiana, just about 9 pm i checked netflix to air play from my imac to atv since i cant stream from my atv very well right now & couldnt load a movie. I checked a movie on itunes which always worked great & couldnt load there ether.I than checked my internet speed on my imac & got .9 mb down load.Called comcast that took forever to get a pearson & they couldnt even ping my modem. Its about 12:30 am & getting better speed but not right yet. Even earlier today my blu ray & tv had trouble streaming. Check this out. I also think comcast is having trouble in my area for awhile, even though the down load speed is good there are many other factors that can affect hd video streaming.

Dec 1, 2013 10:53 PM in response to ericfrominby dillinr,Throwing in another complaint. Poor streaming quality with Netflix on two separate units, an ATV2 on a wireless connection and an ATV3 on a wired connection, Comcast, 30 up, 5 down.
List of things I've tried:
Update both ATV's
Set Netflix Playback to High
Switch ATV2 from 5 to 2.4 network
Reset, multiple times
Unplug > 10sec, multiple times
Re-Set Wifi password both networks
Re-Set Modem and router
Nothing has worked. Spent an hour and three phone calls with Netflix, they said their engineers are looking into it, try back in a couple days if the problem isn't corrected.

Dec 2, 2013 6:04 AM in response to DustyStormby Thomas Summerall,Count me as a ATV3 wired connection user with 20 down 5 up Comcast connection who has recently started seeing bad quality with Netflix as described in this thread.
I was assuming Comcast was messing with Netflix until I saw this thread.

Dec 2, 2013 6:14 AM in response to DustyStormby MrZeebo,Last night, in prime time, I tried watching a show on Netflix through the Apple TV, and had the same experience as always for the last few weeks -- Super HD for a few seconds, then incredibly blurry. I decided to try something that I personally hadn't tried before: I stopped the show, then started the show a second time. The second time, it started in Super HD, and stayed there. Not sure if this is repeatable or will help anyone else, but thought I'd mention it as it's the first ray of hope I've seen on this issue, for me at least. Not a fix, but maybe a hint at a workaround.

We could find out if we knew the shows.

Dec 2, 2013 6:22 AM in response to GaryJR4by MrZeebo,Last night it was with 24, season 3, episode 12. I'm hoping my experience would have happened with any show, and isn't tied just to that one, but who knows.

Dec 2, 2013 6:27 AM in response to MrZeeboby GaryJR4,Well I know episodes of Breaking Bad always look much better than the Sample bit rate clip for me.

Dec 2, 2013 6:28 AM in response to GaryJR4by Thomas Summerall,For me it's House of Cards. I've tried the stop and start again trick to knock it back to HD but it wasn't working last night. Same deal, reverting to low def after a few seconds after restarting the stream.
