Nov 22, 2013 1:22 PM in response to Markel51by Tony Ramirez,ATV is crap now. Drops down to SD more now which it never use too do before. All started November 9th with v6.0.1. Why bother to update a channel to make it worse. I hate that more than anything. You update to improve not to break things then don't even bother.
My Babysitters a Vampire it buffered and never recovered and during the end of Iron Man Adventures it dropped down to SD (not low def) and after a couple of minutes ramped back up to Super HD.
I am only using the ATV now for YouTube and using the Roku 3 & PS3 for Netflix.

Nov 22, 2013 1:32 PM in response to DustyStormby mh1978,Confirming this as well. Only getting 560kbps then eventually 320kbps during peak on ATV3 wired to router. Getting 5800kbps immediately on Roku. HBOGO on ATV3 looks great. This leads me to believe it is definitely in Apple's court.
*I have reset ATV3 and logged out/back in to Netflix. No difference.
Comcast 15down/4up
Apple TV 3
Roku3

Nov 22, 2013 7:19 PM in response to DustyStormby Sundog66,Confirming same problem. HBOGO, ESPN, PBS, and iTunes stream work and look great. Only Netflix has the problem. I have tried log out/in, restart, router restart, etc.

Nov 22, 2013 8:47 PM in response to Sundog66by gjosh23,Same issue as everyone else - Netflix was good until a week or so ago.
Quality is poor on update 6.0.1 and 6.0.2.
Netflix problems only, good wifi signal, HD on first seconds then pushed down to SD and the Example video only streams at 700kps.
Not a software problem but maybe a problem between Apple TV and Netflix since they updated their UI for all other systems.
Hope a 6.1 Update fixes the mashup

Nov 23, 2013 12:31 AM in response to Markel51by Vandergraff,So again tonight the Apple TV is slower than the Chromecast
~12.20 PST - so definitely not Primetime
Apple TV 1750 kbps
Chromecast 5800 kbps (ramped up quickly)
There are definitely Netflix issues in primetime in many areas - but there also something broken in the Apple TV / Netflix playback

Nov 23, 2013 2:26 AM in response to Vandergraffby Alley_Cat,I've noticed poor Netflix quality too in recent weeks in UK - it either started with 6.01 or a little earlier for me.
In essence movies just don't look HD.

Nov 23, 2013 8:05 AM in response to Alley_Catby ericfromin,Seems apple is montoring this problem after talking to apple, since my APT is under warranty they wont me to send back the old one to swap out.The problem i see with that is i have to make sure there are no new software updates on the new one & turn off auto updates.

Nov 23, 2013 11:26 AM in response to ericfrominby Tony Ramirez,As I said I don't think it is the firmware version. Something is borked in the Netflix channel itself. It is now too sensitive to adapting the stream. This all started after using the ATV on Netflix flawless for a week of owning it.

Nov 23, 2013 12:35 PM in response to Tony Ramirezby bodosom,Since other clients are working correctly it's seems likely it's a problem on the ATV. Since it's a new-ish problem it also seems likely to be the result of a recent ATV software update.
There are other more complex explanations but I vote for the simpler one.

Nov 23, 2013 1:10 PM in response to Tony Ramirezby Vandergraff,I agree with Tony Ramirez that it seems the Apple TV is now too sensitive (conservative) in the way it is managing the adaptive streams. I can monitor the real-time bandwidth on my router and would make two observations
- When I switch to Apple TV after playing Netflix from the Chromecast at Supper HD / 5800 kbps I can see in my router that the Apple TV starts downloading at full 16 Mbps and sometimes even plays the 5800 kbps stream on the 'Example Short'. This lasts for 8 - 10 seconds then you can see the stream stutter and it drops 1750 kbps (or less). If I restart a Netflix title on the Apple TV after watching another Netflix title on the Apple TV it always starts at the (poor) quality of the previous title.
- The 10 minute average on the router is quite a bit higher than you would expect from the stream displayed in Example Short (even allowing for audio and filling a buffer on the Apple TV) - suggesting it is getting higher data rate but is not switching up to display the next video quality level.

Nov 23, 2013 2:22 PM in response to Vandergraffby ericfromin,Netflix is not without fault but it seems after software updates all this occured.

Nov 24, 2013 7:23 AM in response to DustyStormby Sebastian SF,Hello!
I thought I shared my experience as well.
Netflix runs with a max bitrate of 1050 (or 750 most of the time, via the Example vid) on my ATV, but in full 5000 on my PS3. I live in Norway, and I am using a payed DNS service. I can even stream 3D movies via my PS3, so it seems that it is indeed the ATV app that is causing trouble. The wierd thing is that it only happens when I stream from the US Netflix, not the Norwegian or the UK one.
I have a 15/5 internet connection, so I know that it is enough to run FullHD. Neved had an issue with the ATV though.

Nov 24, 2013 11:48 AM in response to Sebastian SFby STriola,Confirming same issue here and definitely confined to Netflix on AppleTV. In a test this morning at 10am EST my ATV Netflix stream maxed out at 560kbs while my PS3 streamed at 5800kbs. Both devices are connected to my network via ethernet through the same router (connnected to my Airport Extreme). My iPad maxed as at 3000kbs over wi-fi. All other channels on my ATV display high quality HD video with no problems.
FWIW, I have Comcast internet and get >50mbs download and 10mbs upload.

Nov 24, 2013 1:26 PM in response to DustyStormby DustyStorm,I am also isolating this to Apple TV. I tried Super HD streaming on my Sony blu-ray player and it worked fine. Netflix on Apple TV still awful quality.

Nov 24, 2013 4:05 PM in response to gjosh23by gjosh23,Well, after two weeks of low quality Netflix, it seems to be working again in HD - nothing done, nothing changed
