Dec 17, 2013 9:05 PM in response to Chris Brestleby ericfromin,I think a differtant test could have better, everytime i see & hear that fountain i have to run to the bathroom.I failed to mention about the long convertation i had with netflix earlier today. They right off the bat said they were working on the issue, i said you need to work on your hd streaming anyway, its never been that great as compaired to vudu or imovies.

Dec 17, 2013 10:00 PM in response to Chris Brestleby Brunello88,Many thanks to Chris B, Vandergraff and others on this thread. It feels great to be getting on the other side of this frustration! I'm also seeing 5800 solid thru the ATV2 on Comcast. Chris your video was a great idea, well executed. Big thanks!

I hope I never have to watch that fountain and the dude moonwalking with this laptop ever again...
The background in the test clip is the Netflix Campus which I drive past everyday on the way home from work.
Everyone should rate it 5 star so Netflix keep it - it is very useful when we get issues like this.
I suspect one of its original purposes was to check that each Netflix player is handling P24 streams correctly - hence the various scenes with motion that would show P24 to P60 conversion issues (think the ball swinging on the string - the train - or even the fountain).
Which brings me to a peeve with the Apple TV - it can only output P60 when much of the Netflix content is encoded P24. My (very old) Blu-Ray player can output P24 when playing P24 Netflix streams and definitely handles the motion on Example Short better (although I will admit the Apple TV does a pretty good job as well). This however is the subject for another thread....

Dec 18, 2013 4:41 AM in response to DustyStormby Sundog66,Last night I watched episode one of the second season of Lillyhammer. It looked great and never buffered. Could our HORRID picture quality behind us?
BTW, it was 8:00 pm Eastern (prime time).
I then rewatched an episode of the latest season of Always Sunny in Philadelphia. My previous viewing of the same episode a couple weeks ago was almost unwatchable. This time it looked great.
I ran the Netflix text video and got a steady 3000 kbs (1280x720). Is that normal if my TV is only 720?

Same here: watched 3 episdoes of Mad Men during prime-time here in L.A. - very sharp HD all the way through, did not buffer once. Netflix seems to have corrected the streams that they send to or the way they communicate with the Apple TV
However - the Example Short still won't play in HD. It could be that very server this sample movie is streaming from. I do not seem to have this issue with anything else any more.
Hmm...

Dec 18, 2013 7:25 AM in response to DustyStormby Middle Aged Hack,Just to add another data point, I watched a few things last night between 8 and 10pm Pacific time and this is the first time in over a month that I got HD right off the bat and kept HD quality during that time period.
I think the video was incredibly helpful, as were all the folks who contacted Netflix through any available channel. Let's hope this is all behind us.

Still having the same issue over here. In fact, I went to my cousins house in Albuquerque and they have the same problem there on a very fast connection.
Do you think we could get things rolling a little faster if someone can make a short Youtube video showing the issue and titling it something like, "Dont buy an Apple Tv until this Netflix bug is fixed" then we can comment on it?
Just a thought.
Glad someone on this forum took the suggestion from my post on page 32 and was able to make a YouTube video that clearly showed the problem that we were all experiencing. It is now December 18, 2013, 9:33 am and it seems like the problem has been fixed. (fingers crossed) I am viewing NetFlix in beautiful HD once again!

Dec 18, 2013 9:02 AM in response to DustyStormby jimpal,What was the cause of all this? (Or perhaps still happening in some places). It would be fun to know.
Some of us think it was complicated, involving Apple, Netflix, and Netflix's Super HD rollout problems with ISP's.
Some of us think it was only an Apple, or a Netflix problem.
Perhaps something will ultimately be written about this in a magazine like Macworld, etc. If so, I would appreciate anyone who sees such a thing posting a link here about it. I will do the same if I see something first.
Thanks.

Dec 18, 2013 9:31 AM in response to jimpalby Tony Ramirez,All these tech bloggers with their fancy degrees did not say crud about this. Absolutely nothing in the news. Just here and the AVS Forum otherwise nothing even from Apple themselves.

Dec 18, 2013 10:38 AM in response to DustyStormby Zathrak,Did anyone else notice the bit at the top of this that says "Branched to a new discussion"? I click it and it says "It appears you're not allowed to view what you requested. You might contact your administrator if you think this is a mistake." I haven't been active enough to know if this is normal or not but part of me wants to think that it was branched by Apple to discuss it internally. :-)

Yes - if you set the output as 720P you will get 3000 kbps max (the highest quality 720P stream)

I did restart my ATV before I started seeing HD last night, but I don't know whether that is necessary.
