how do i set target display mode

How do I set up Target display mode on a IMAC 21.5 inch 2.9 Ghz I5 core. OS X 10.9? I want to project from my Macbook Air 11 inch 1.6 Ghz i5 core OS X Lion 10.7.5.

Mac Mini, Mac OS X (10.5.6)

Looking at the processor of both Macs, both of them are from 2011 or later, so they have got Thunderbolt. In this case, you just have to buy a Thunderbolt cable and connect it to both MacBook Air and iMac. Then, press Command and F2 keys on your iMac to enable Target Display mode.
