Can't restore an iPad 2

Try recovery mode as described here. Note you may have to try to get into recovery mode more than once to succeed.

By the way, I'm puzzled by your reference to iOS 6, as restoring to iOS 6 should not have been an option for almost the past two months (except for iPhone 3GS).
Tried the "restore in recovery mode" again. Same result. Erro 3014. I unplugged every USB device, a printer and tablet.
The ios 6 attempt is a workaround that allows you to recover in previous ios. You simply download the ios and hold down the Option key while clicking on the "restore" button in iTunes. Same result.
Any other ideas?
I am running Norton Antivirus suite, but I've double checked and it's totally turned off - from connection blocking, app blocking, to virus protection.
Wow. That was fun. After researching even further, I discovered that my security software - Norton vs 2.1.1 has a "Norton Deepsight Community" parameters. After turning this feature off, which is left on unless you go deep into the menu, I was able to update with no problems.
I guess Norton really works.
Thanks for the help though.
Thank you for the insight. Your solution worked for me too. ****** Norton. ****** Apple! It will be a cold day in **** and pigs will be flying in formation before I download another iTunes update. smh
