Latch button stuck in!!

Try playing with it a little without breaking it. Jiggle it around side to side and see if it will come out. If it is not all the way in can you stick a flat head screwdriver in the latch hole, not on the screen, on the computer itself and push back on the latches that hold the monitor?

Reply back what happens.

I just had this same problem with a two week old MBP. I was fuming at the thought of having to send it in- but decided to do a bit of research to see if I could DIM. This tip worked perfectly- thanks so much!

Don't use a screwdriver to mess around with your button. You will end up scratching everything up. Use something plastic and stiff to work around with. (plastic knife) Maybe you have some debris in there?

How about a good old toothpick? I find those buggers infinitely useful 🙂 even sometimes for cleaning dirt.

This problem had been annoying me for a few months because i live in greece and do not even dare send it in. Anyhow i read about sticking things in the latch holes and went for it. Basically i took a pair of small tweezers and started digging.

What i noticed is that on the inner side of the holes there are the inner latches for the button. I tried pulling them outwards and after about 3 minutes of trying it worked.

I once again have the button!!!

It worked for me too!! I used an unravelled spiral binding to tease the button out - in about 10 seconds! so glad i don't have to take it in.

Worked for me too. The left side of the latch had gotten "stuck" in, so although the hooks would catch on the right, they would not catch on the left, and the screen would easily pop open.

I took a paper clip and prodded around in the hole for a minute and soon the button popped out.
