do I need two group distribution lists

I have Group distribution lists in my "address book" on my laptop. I also have an iPhone. The contacts in my "address book" on my laptop come across to the iPhone so I can use a contact from both platforms. My Group distribution lists do not come across to my iPhone.

So, my questions : are my Group distribution lists supposed to be available on both platforms? If not, in this day and age do I really need to build 2 separate group distribution lists? One for my laptop and another one for my iPhone?
