MBP Aug 2011 flickering, garbage display resulting in a crash

Hi all,

I have a Aug 2011 Macbook Pro 2 ghz, intel core i7, 4gb ram running on Mac OS X 10.7.3.[Amd Radeon graphics]

I rarely turn off my MBP, rather I simpy close the lid and frequently use lid wake. It had been working fine till recently, when I opened the lid and after a few minutes, there was flickering and garbage display, resulting in a crash, where there was a prompt to restart the computer. And eversince then, things havent been the same😢

Now, it crashes abruptly on waking it up i.e post-hibernation. Especially when there is a use of high end graphics like Gaming or HD viewing. The screen flickers, followed by a garbage display, ultimately leading to a frozen screen and the prompt for restarting the computer.😟

Yesterday it didnt even prompt to shutdown, it simply crashed and froze😢

I have tried PRAM, SMC , NVRAM resets, but the problem persists.

PLEASE ADVICE

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

The startup disk may need repairing ...

Launch Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utillities

Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.

Click: Verify Disk (not Verify Disk Permissions)

If DU reports errors, restart your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys. From there you should be able to acces the built in utilities in OS X Recovery to repair the startup disk.

Okay.. I tried resetting the NVRAM, PRAM, SMC et al.

But it didnt work out.

Next, I updated my OS X version from 10.7.3 to 10.7.5. And it resolved my problem for a day.

However the issue has surged back again. Distortions and garbage display, requiring a reboot. Then the screen stays normal for a bit and on opening any application, it goes garbage and distortions appear.

Any ideas?
