update knocked out my apple tv

While updating Apple tv . Apple tv stopped updating and started flashing rapidly. I have tried the "fixes" I've found online with out success i.e. unplugging for days and plugging back in... Holding the "down" and menu button routine.. Nothing seems to work.. the light on the apple tv continues to flash very rapidly and is not identified when trying to play... can't get to menu etc
