Q: Macbook pro 2010 keeps crashing

hi,

it has been a good 2 weeks that my macbook pro 2010 13in keeps crashing. It can happen during games or even during light browsing. When it does occur i can hear the sound being looped in the backround. Ive brought it in to apple twice already and they cant seem to reproduce the problem. The temperature doesnt seem to be an issue because even light browsing 50C it crashes. I have to do a hard reset to get it working and sometimes it doesnt recognize my drive or the apple logo boots and after some time it has an O (nothing can load, kinda like no smoking signs with the barred cigarette). Occasionally it also has wifi problems, it disconects and does not reconnect unless i hard reset. All these problems also occur on the windows partition (same circumstances). Please i need some help because i have work and i cannot trust an unstable computer to do work on. (im also running on 10.9) crashes only started after i updated but only on the windows side first.

Also remove all your peripherals and test. Then add them back one by one.

You should stop running Prime95 and uninstall it untill this problem is resolved. In additon downlaod, run and post the results here of EtreCheck Find out what your Mac is running.

HAs anyting chaged on the system since the problem started? New memory, disk, software, anything?

Prime95 is a stress testing program nothing that I run usually. There is nothing new about the computer or anything it uses. I could mention that a long time ago my charger was not working all the time and was on and off and when i brought it in they found nothing wrong but gave me the wrong magsafe and 85 instead of the usual that comes with my comp. But it worked and i have 564 cycles half of the expected life. Just as i was typing this my internet stoped working and i thought to the things i could do i tried ethernet and it works. I tried to turn wifi on but the setting is stuck in the off position and wont change this is one thing i can finally see as a problem my computer lagged a lot before i realized the wifi stoped. When is disconected my computer was fine again no lag. I think this is one of my big problems anything i could do to fix would help. Thanks again!!

Voila i think this is another problem beside the main one.. context: for example i plug in my external hard drive and it only recognizes in one of the ports and not both. Both power the device only one recognizes it but my mouse works with both ports very weird.

Wifi! <-- can you believe this is making my system crash, i think so when it disconects it lags for a long time before going to normal i tried prime95 while wifi was off and it worked perfectly running it to 90C and not crashing.. anyone have a fix for my problem or is this a genius bar fix?

Please see my note pointing to WiFi earlier in this thread, and some potential tests.

If you have a USB device that's drawing too much or that's flaky, remove that, as well.

I just opened my computer and removed the screen to get to the wifi card.. (cleverly hidden in the screen). When i saw it one of the connectors seemed to be disconnected and this might have been because of me opening it but highly unlikely i think things are only going to get better from here. I reconnected closed everything and started my computer and it's working fine now and i hope it continues this way. I have generally nothing connected on the usb port and ill run the tests. thanks a bunch

I did the AHT and it passed the short test and i went for the long test and it went for about an hour i saw it past the mainboard test when i went to move my mouse it was frozen. When i hard reseted it came to a screen with a folder that has a question mark in the middle. Before this i reseted because of another crash and when it got to the apple logo some black test came on the left i could not read it fast enough but it mentioned CPU caller 1 or something along those lines. This is the second time i see this same message. Anything that can help is much needed. thanks!

    Monavvari --

Have you recently added or replace any RAM?

Or maybe some of your RAM sticks are bad, or unseated?

No changes to my system at all ive tested the RAM and nothing showed i can try pulling one out and running on one to see if there is a faulty stick but this all started randomly after a week that i updated 10.9 i had a talk with a friend and he mentioned usb ports and i told him i was having issues with them for a long time were only one port was working i fixed permission (pre-crashing) and it worked. Now it seems to work as well but he says if its a faulty port it can cause crashes. I can also add most crashes require 2 hard resets the first reset almost never boots into my os and just loads nothing for ever or shows a folder with a question mark could it be my EFI? Thanks again.
