How can I set up first gen airport after upgrading to Mavericks ?

Apple has pretty much eliminated the ability to natively administer the older 802.11g AirPort base stations with the latest OS X release. In order to administer these you would either need to: 1) Use a Mac running an older OS X version, 2) Run a VM host on your Mac with an earlier OS X client, or 3) Use a Windows-based PC.

Those are very nice music airplay devices. I have two, usem regularly and just discovered that old AirPort Utility v.5.6.1 does not work on Maverik. I hope Apple will make a "new" v.5.6.2 that does run on Maverik.

You can hope, but the more that users tell Apple what they want, the better the chance that users will get what they want.

I have to add in my request also, please. I have both 1st adn 3rd gen. But still need to be able to set up the old reliable. It is a waste to toss a good working product out the window.

you can also set up your iMac or MacBook to dual boot into 10.7, 10.8 or 10.9. get a Genius Bar appointment and have them show you how. it can be as easy as using an old hard to boot into. it could be a long wait for Apple. I use this to

run airport utility 5.6.

I just submitted feedback. (thank you for the link). It's just not cool for Apple to do this. I have two AEs that need to be adjusted and I just learned I am no longer able to do so. Very uncool. 😟

At least Apple cannot claim they didn't recive any feedback on it.

Thanks for the work-around, but, that seems like a lot of trouble for a simple utility that should be backward compatitble. my old Express works nice, STILL, and I bought a new one, but, I don't think Apple should be making such recent equipment obsolete so quickly. ;<

So get this: I found a perfectly workable solution to this under Mavericks and I tried to tell you about it, but Apple removed my post. So not only did they remove support intentionally for a functioning product, but they are actively preventing me from sharing the solution that worked for me last night: "Your post titled, "Re: How can I set up first gen airport after upgrading to Mavericks ?," has been removed from Apple Support Communities. Software licensed by Apple may only be distributed by sources approved by Apple."

All I can say is that after reading your thread, I googled a bit and found out how to get an older version of the airport utility to run under Mavericks. Good luck!

This Apple is getting rotten.

I made my complaint:

Angry that you broke my ability to configure my airport with Mavericks.

Angry that I had to jump through a lot of hoops to find that out.

1. Airport service and report (instead of that link you could have put It won't work)

2. Several links from there.

3. read through many pages to try to find the software or firm ware that might help.

4. Finally came to the conclusion that there was no combination of 802.11g and Mavericks.

5. Went to community support where one of you customers revealed "It won't work"

6. Googled it and found a page that would make it work.

7. Decided I would just buy a new router.

8. Will go spend money angrily to update the thing.
