Email Problem

I cannot send mail. I am sorry but I have pARKINSONS AND EMAIL IS MY LIFELINE TO THE OUTSIDE WORLD SO TO SPEAK. MY IMAC TELLS ME THAT EMAIL CANNOT CONNECT TO THE " SERVER "

Hello, did you recently update to 10.9?
