how to delete songs from itunes and hd at the same time

If the song file in question is located in your iTunes Media folder, when deleting from your library iTunes will give you the option to also delete from your computer.

If the song file is elsewhere, the file cannot be deleted from iTunes. You will have to separately visit the folder.

iTunes only offers to delete the underlying files if they are inside the designated media folder. Either consolidate/reorganize* your library so that is the case or use my script KillSelectedFiles.

I just used your killselected files script and want to say a big THANKS! Is there a way to keep this running as I delete music (I've been deleting in batches, but now I just want to delete a song here or there and have it stay gone), or do I need to open the app everytime? FYI, you have answered a lot of my questions recently through other people's posts, and I appreciate that greatly.

The way the majority of my scripts work is to read the currently selected tracks in iTunes and process them in some way. I can't make them run as a background process that follows your actions. In the long run iTunes is easier to manage (and backup) if all the media is inside the designated media folder. This can be done by consolidating the library which makes new copies of the media files inside the media folder. You have to manually clean the originals, but at least further deletions from the library will be easier to manage. There is also my scriptConsolidateByMoving which would cut down on the work of cleaning originals.

I'm sorry, I am trying to find a solution to this same problem as well (Deleting from itunes and the HD at the same time). I am not very tech-savvy so this may be extremely dumb but.... I can't seem to find your script 😟.

I know how to use Scripts for iTunes but I can't seem to find this through your link, which part am I supposed to copy/paste and create the new script in the Apple Script Editor on my mac?

Hi there!

I came looking for the same answer a lot of others did...I found your KillSelectedFiles script and downloaded it. Found ScriptEditor on my computer, copied and pasted KSF into it. But when I tried to Run it, I got a syntax error message saying "A unknown Token can't Go Here". What do I need to do to get this thing working??

What operating system are you running? Script Editor suggests it might be OS X in which case DeleteSelectedFiles from Doug's Scripts for iTunes is going to be a better bet for you. My scripts at http://samsoft.org.uk/iTunes/scripts.asp are all for Windows, should run exactly as they are, and are best edited in Notepad++.

Yes I'm running El Capitan. I tried your suggestion, but when I went to locate my iTunes Library, a web browser (Safari) window popped up.
