my iphone 5c is not receiving emails/ message states there is no email connectecion , although I have Internet connection

Today I finally began to delete thousands of old emails from my Yahoo email. Then Yahoo email stopped deleting them. I would check delete and it would delete only to return to my in box again and again. I did this on my desktop. I then went to my I phone 5c to find that no new emails are coming in. I get a message that the connection to the server failed. I do have Internet connection though. What can I do to fix these issues/

Start by resetting your phone. Hold the HOME and SLEEP buttons until an Apple logo appears. We'll go from there if that does not resolve the problem.

NO this did not help, unless I did it wrong. You asked that I turn the phone off and turn it back on , correct? INteresting , though, when I tap the Safari icon, it brings me to mg.mail.yahoo.com with my most recent emails. What happened to the mail icon, which is not receiving current emails? Can I get this to work again?

No, I did not say turn it off and then on. Hold the HOME and SLEEP buttons at the same time until an Apple logo appears. Ignore the "Slide to power off" message and keep holding.

ok, I followed this instruction but it did not help when I tapped the mail icon; it brought me to where I left off deleting my emails. I am able to get my recent emails through safari icon though. Other problem is not being able to delete the emails. It looks like I deleted them and they appear back in my inbox

Try deleting the Yahoo email account, reset the phone again, then add it back. The reset is very important to prevent the phone from simply reusing the email settings of the deleted account.
