Q: OS X Server: Fails to upgrade to 3.0.1.

Does anybody else have issues?

It informs that the services will be stopped. I chose Continue.

If Server app is running I am getting a warning about that. I stop the Server app, and the upgrade continues. After a short I am asked to login again (I was logged in already). It's not upgraded. In the list of updates, it simply says: "An error has occurred".

The appstore logs contains 403 errors about downloading before the (re-)login happens.

Then after, I can see a warning:

The store agent and related are part of the download process, and the HTTP 403 status is "forbidden". Which implies this might be a download error, and not an upgrade error.

The App Store might be snarled again. (Access to parts of the Apple Developer site cratered over the weekend, even including problems reaching the Apple system status page itself.)

Try restarting or redownloading the download again later; after Apple has had some time to sort out any problems, if that's what is going on here. Alternatively, work through the sequences described in this thread or this tech note and maybe (and only after you have a complete, known-good backup of your disk) this posting.

I think there was an old install process still running. A dialog showed up when I rebooted.
