What is the grey icon with a cross and circles on my homepage? I cannot remove it

I've seen icons like that when I've saved a Safari Bookmark to the Home screens. What happens when you tap on it?

Have you tried to remove it just like you might remove an unwanted app? Tap and hold on the icon until it starts to jiggle. It should then display an x. Tap the x and confirm that you want to delete.

It was a failed to load icon. You try to download an app and it doesn't finish you get the grey icon. That' also why the reboot worked.

I am a 71 old lady who just got a brand new iPad Air yesterday and was having the same problem that nobody knew how to resolve. So I decided to search the net and arrived at this page. Although my problem became a problem no longer after reading your "medication" I decided to join this community just to say how much I appreciated it and how much better my sunday just became because of it.
