Q: Admin Password

I have (somehow) managed to forget my admin password and because of this can't download necessary files in order to make my product better. I found out that you could reset your password through FileVault or your apple ID but because my settings were locked I can't access these options without unlocking them and that requires my password. I was just wondering if anyone could help? :-(
