I can not call out on my iPhone 5c phone...I can text...and Ihavenot done any recent updates...it says in the upper left hand corner...invalid sim

Presuming that you're using the same SIM that came with the iPhone or that was provided by your cell carrier, the one to which your iPhone is locked, try removing and reinserting the SIM. If that doesn't fix the problem, you may need to get a new SIM from your cell carrier.
