OWC External Hard Drives?

I think I need to get a new external drive for audio recording and this OWC drive has all the specs I need.

Has anyone had any experience with OWC drives? I'm using their Ram right now and it's been perfect, but how about experience with their hard drives. How does it compare to Western Digital, etc? And what kind of warranty comes on their drives?

Thanks-
J

This drive is probably just an OWC enclosure around an OEM IDE hard drive. The actual drive component is made by Hitachi (see the warranty section).

I have never owned a Hitachi hard drive, so I can't speak from experience. Hard drive quality is very subjective; I have had several Seagates die on me, one WD, and no Maxtors, and other people have had exactly the opposite.

Hey, just thought that I would chime in. Im an editor and currently Im working on a Disney film...but about the hard drive...We are using the exact same ones for our HD playback for dailies. And I have had no problems with the actual HDD, but the case is another story. On 8 out of 10 that we receive there is at least 1 screw loose, sometimes its all four. And the tangs are broken sometimes. So I dont know if our courier is just throwing them around (although when they are transported they are inside a pelican case) or if its just aa bad design. But the HDD's on the inside we havent had a problem with and were talking about transfering 150GB of HD material everynight.

Thanks guys - great to hear! Part of the reason I want this one is because of the looks - I think fellow Mac users can understand that one! I looked buying the exact HD on newegg.com and the case from OWC but it's actually about the same price - maybe more with shipping and this comes with a firewire cable which I don't have. I placed the order yesterday so i'll be up and running soon. I think the best thing about this compared to my 80GB WD USB drive is that this has an ON/OFF switch! If anyone is interested, I can post how it's running when I get it.

I have two of these drives (both 250 GB) and they have been fine. One was a little loud, but then I put them horizontally instead of vertically and all is fine. One of the nicest things about these drives is that they are very quiet. My other one sounded like a jet engine (okay, a little exaggerated) but these are very quiet. I normally just leave them on all the time.
