i want to connect my new 2013 edition mac book pro with retina display to my recently purchased apple tv, how do i go about doing this because the icon doesnt show on the finders bar.
ive tried home sharing but that wont work either

Did you enable home sharing on both devices, and add security code or user ID and password from ATV to your Mac?
ive enabled home sharing and how do i add a security code? ive got my apple id on both Mac and Apple TV
You set the security option(s) you want on ATV when you enable AirPlay.
So if I add a security code on Apple TV it should connect? Just when I swipe up the control centre on my iPad and iPhone too when connected to the sMe network it doesn't show airplay
