welcome tony to the  board...

hmm... MacOsX is multilingual, some apps are also multilingual... just made a test:
no Chinese installed here (well, some people say, German is Chinese to them...)
so, I choose Kanji from my system prefs...
you can choose a "palette" with Japanese letters,
I highlighted the title, then typed a few "letters" (I have NO idea what I have typed!! dear Japanese forum members: apologizes in advance!!!)

as you can see, the "very foreign" letters are used by iM...

so, install Chinese typo - and you go... somehow. No idea, how you type in Chinese, my guess, similiar to Japanese with a palette.....

helpful?

I am not able to duplicate what you sent me even though it is really exciting and I think will solve my problem if I can do what you did

I go on system prefs.. click the international "flag" in language I switched from Chinese to Japanese... and back to english
and the tabs change language but the typewriter keyboard is still in english
sorry I am missing a step I can see

thanks for you response so far maybe I can get to the right chinese character subtitle palate still... any corrections to suggest?? Tony

You really do need to read a bit of the link you were provided earlier. To input Chinese you need (assuming you can see the Chinese IM symbol in the "flag" menu) to select an input method like Pinyin or ITABC and then type the right roman letters plus the space bar to get a selection of hanzi to choose from.

You cannot type Chinese from a palette like you can Japanese. Even for Japanese, most people type in roman letters and then hit the space bar.

I'm not familiar with non-latin-based typo, sorry.

when selecting the asian setting, under the "flag" I get offered a "palette", you see in my pic on the very left...
I'm sure, there are other, more convenient methods to generate non-latin typo... I thought YOU know, you asked for chinese=you type chinese... 😉

I just can confirm: iMovie supports non-latin-based typo...

I would ask about "multilingual settings/how to type chinese" in the MacOsX section..
