How to access iOS files/use iPod Touch as removable disk?

I was wondering how to access and manage my iPod touch's files through Finder and/or terminal without the use of third party software. The easiest way to further explain my predicament is to ask how to get it to function as a "removable disk." I know there is no easy and supported way, but was hoping someone knows how to get to the device's files through either commands or any other means.
