Startup Default Keyboard

Suddenly (has not always behaved like this) when booting (during initial log in before loading the Desktop) the keyboard is not the default set in preferences.

(my password contains an @ which is not on the key I am expecting - I am configured with a US keyboard - I am expecting to use Shift 2 but instead the @ is located on the Alt-g - found this by trial and error)

So the phyiscal keyboard of the Macbook Air does not match the Logical keyboard the OS is using durng boot up.

Does anyone know where the Default Keyboard is stored when booting up?

Hello

Thanks for the reply and the tips.

This is not exactly the solution to the problem I am having.

First, the ability to work with the langauge only appears to be available AFTER you complete the startup (initial log in of an user account).

What is occurring is the when booting up, and the first log in screen appears during the startup process, the physical keyboard of the MBA does not match the input keyboard of the startup.

My password had (i ahve changed now) an "@" in it, and the physical keyboard is a US keyboard. Normally the @ is a shift-2, but this is not the character produced. Eventually (trial and error) i discovered that the @ was located on the alt-g key.

when I look at the characters generated from the keyboard, they look like a European keyboard (recognize various keys, and the alt-g for an @ is similar to Swiss French Keyboard mapping).

So it is not a USer langauge probelm, because the user has not been recognized yet (first log in) but seems to be a physical keyboard setting that is no longer set to the US Keyboard mapping.

Thanks for any help.
