I'm working on something right now just using MIDI CC for a Super BS. It's possible to control most things this way but I'm wondering if sysex can be used to give total control since the BS does full sysex dumps. I have most sorted apart from all the black switches. The only way with those would be sysex if that is even possible. Distortion, pan and chorus can easily be controlled which is certainly better than messing with the data entry buttons. I wish I could get all the data entry functions working. Arpeggio and MIDI clock for example. No way to get any info about the sysex.

I assume it's a Bass Station you have and not a Super Bass Station? The Super has more functions and so is more complicated to sort. The trouble is that we have no way of knowing whether we can control everything with system exclusive. The BS dumps this and you can read it but it does not send MIDI or even sysex when you use particular switches and most functions in the data entry part. The manual gives many MIDI CC numbers but not everything. We would need a list of sysex commands. Maybe someone at Novation can tell us if we can even do this? I'm thinking to just set up groups of presets with pre-configured parts that we can't control from Logic.

Yes, sysex info should be supplied for every instrument when needed. I have a Juno 106 here and every single fader tweak or button press sends sysex messages so you can see what this message is and send it back. This is why there is already a Juno 106 environment for Logic on the net because it's easy to work out although the available one is not complete so I'm going to add to it.

I might try mailing Novation about this but probably they won't be into bothering supporting some old product like the Bass Station.

In my opinion the power of what you can do in the environment is an excellent feature of Logic but seriously underused. It is the engine behind all other windows, where all the data flows. Once you have your environment for controlling your instrument you then have a whole load of ways to get one parameter reacting with another. People see it as complicated but drawing a cable from one object to any other object is not really that complicated. In fact it's a visually simple way of sorting things. Complicated is trying to do this stuff in other programs which give you no access to any power under the hood.

I just got my Bass Station recently. The first real analog synth I got was the Juno 106, also quite recent. That sent me off on the analog thing. The sounds are glorious. If you listen to the Bass Station software plugin it is nowhere near as good. The Super is slightly better because it has, amongst a few other things, external input for audio and a sub oscillator. You read this marketing talk about how software instruments exactly replicate real instruments. Well they don't. The Logic synths are good though because they allow you to do different stuff and Absynth. I like that but the Bass Station is a classic for sure.
