Q: Since updating to iOS 7.04 my bluetooth will not connect

Hello All,

 

I updated to iOS 7.04 yesterday, and since then my automobile bluetooth hands free system locks up when the phone connects.

 

I've reset the car system, reset the phone, deleted all connections, all to no avail.

 

Is there a solution, or can I downgrade my phone to iOS 7.03 until a solution is found? I drive quite a bit for work and need this functionality asap!

Hopefully you don't have to resort to it, but restore again but don't load a backup in case it is corrupted.

    You cannot downgrade iOS. Apple does not support downgrading. How old a vehicle is this? The latest iOS will have the latest Bluetooth stack and may not be compatible with the radio. You can also check out this support document. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3581

    Hello Chris,

     

    I have a 2013 Hyundai that I just picked up last Monday. The bluetooth worked fine until the update yesterday. I've tried all the standard "turn off, delete the device, restart, etc." processes...is there anything else that can be done? How can this Bluetooth stack be uncompatible with the very latest device?

    Well, I have a 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. I have an iPhone 5s with iOS 7.0.4 and it connects just fine. I don't believe there was any change to the Bluetooth stack this time, but there have been compatabilty problems with older vehicles/radio systems. That is why I had to ask what kind of vehicle you had.

     

    You have removed the phone from the car list, and the car from the phone list. You seem to have done everything I would know to do. You are saying the vehicle system is locking up? Do you have BlueLink? I had a Bluetooth issue right after getting my vehicle and they had to replace my system. It was the full Nav system. There was some type of problem between BlueLink and the Bluetooth. You might want to have your Hyundai dealer check the system and see if there is some type of error code in the computer to explain it. But I cannot think of any other approach to what you have done.

    There's a big difference between resetting an iPhone and restoring it, which did you do?  If you just did a reset, you can try "Reset Network Settings" to see if that helps, but you may need to backup the iPhone, then restore it (i.e. erase it and reload iOS) and then load your backup and then your media.

     

    Just curious, did you do the iOS 7.0.4 update over-the-air or from your computer? IMO updating while wired seems to give the least headaches.

    I'm doing a full erase and reset, then I'll do a full restore and report back.

    Reset the phone, deleted everything and started over this morning. No dice, the phone pairs for 10 seconds, then the system locks up. I'll try my wife's 4 tonight and see if that pairs.

    I have a 5S and drive a 2013 Dodge Challenger. Since updating to 7.04 I'm having the same problems with connectivity. It connects and drops and connects and drops. Calls jump back and forth from the handset to the car making the bluetooth car connectivity useless. It's very frustrating as finally being able to bluetooth to my car was a big part of my excitement at getting this particular car.

    Your issue with the car's system locking up sounds as if it is a problem with the vehicle. It sounds suspiciously similar to the problem that I had with Bluetooth that I described earlier. It could be an incompatability with the latest version of Bluetooth that is in the phone versus the version the vehicle supports. Hyundai should be able to answer those questions for you.

    Issue resolved!

     

    I did a full wired restore, but did not load my latest backup. Went out to the car and the Bluetooth worked fine. Went back in and loaded the latest backup, and the Bluetooth failed.

     

    Sounds like the OTA software update corrupted something with the Bluetooth connectivity. A bit of a PIA to reload and reorganize my phone, but worth it to get my connectivity back.

    I did the following and seem to have resolved my problem (knock on wood).

     

    I told the phone to forget the car's bluetooth (UConnect).

     

    I told the car to forget the phone.

     

    I power cycled the phone.

     

    I re-paired the phone and car.

     

    I've been streaming music and making calls ever since without issue (about an hour of drive time on two separate trips). Fingers crossed that it continues to work!
