New Apple TV cannot set time and date. Have unplugged both router and Apple TV, have gone to settings could not restore , but could reset again stuck on date and time . Suggestions

Push the menu button to get by the date/time screen and use the settings menu to figure out what is wrong with the network settings.

You shouldn't by-pass the date and time settings, they need to be configured before the Apple TV will work properly and they need to be configured using your network time server not manually.

Check your router isn't blocking port 123 and open as necessary. You should refer to your manual for configuring your router or if it's supplied by your ISP, get them to help you.

Agreed, but if it is not working he needs to skip it to fix the networking problem first.

I had this issue using a comcast router. Had to log into Internet site for only my router. Comcast will have your website. Once there I turned off the firewall and apple tv connected right away. Then put up firewall again and all is well. Try this first as I spent hours on every thing else. This is a common problem.

Switch the hotspot on your iphone to on; unplug the Ethernet cable on the back of ATV, selected your iphone as the wireless connection under the general/network tab; run through the rest of setup process; then reconnected the Ethernet cable and Hey presto! All fixed.

In this case don't ****-around with your router settings unless you know exactly what you are doing.

my isp has blocked port 123, and now nothing works on my apple tv2. there is nothing i can do but switch isp. my network at home is fine

That port needs to be open in order to set date/time, otherwise you will be unable to use the device. Contact the ISP

My issue was:

Cannot setting date and time and cannot activate Apple TV

My tests:

1.- Network OK. ( I have other two Apple TV's working well ) ( not fix issue)

2.- Firewall disabled in my router. (not fix issue)

3.- Configuration Reset ( I'll need configure my network again) (not fix issue)

4.- Reset router. (not fix issue)

The simple SOLUTION for me was:

Connect appletv to iphone hotspot and that's all, I can connect with my itunes account and see iTunes home libraries.

Solved my problem with my new AppleTV box a treat. I had a BT HuB 3.0. Afterwards I could connect to the hub no problems. Thanks very much.

Worked for me too! With the only downside being I missed being able to do the fancy Apple TV setup via my iPhone and bluetooth.
