Apple logo/icon disappears from menu bar in Mavericks

In Mavericks, I have noticed that the Apple logo/icon is disappearing from the menu bar

If you put the cursor in the area of the menu bar where the Apple logo should be nothing happens. But if you click in the menu bar in that area, the logo appears as well as the menu

But once you click off the menu, the Apple logo disappears again.
