I just upgraded to Mavericks moments ago.
Setting up my mail accounts in Mavericks. It adds them in "Internet Accounts" under system preferences and inside Mail > Accounts, in which ever order it pulls out of god knows where. I can't drag these to order which account comes first.
As a result, whenever a new mail is composed, it's default address is the account on top of the list which isn't what I want. How do I set this?
Drag the order in the Inbox.
That only changes the order they show in inbox not the default from address the mail is composed with
Quit Mail then relaunch.

This worked for me - once I'd worked out that I had to do both these things - change the order in the inbox then quit and reopen :-)
On a related note - has anyone else noticed they're using Google more and more to find out how to do things that used to be intuitive on the Mac? Maybe I'm just getting old ...
It has been increasingly so since OSX... More and more like THAT OTHER wierdows OS...
Now it's becoming less and less user-friendly, intuitive and I say it after using Mac for almost 30 years!
It's in Mail > Preferences > Composing. Then set the send messages from option

Sergio, the OS just keeps getting better, richer, more extensive...so there are more things to learn...it's not any less intuitive...the answer to this problem was so easy...go to preferences > composing, then choose the acct you want to be your default. Could it be any easier?
I guess you have not read that I have been using Macs for 30 years and I am not that dumb...
Your answer doesn't even get close to responding how to order and KEEP in that order 18 different e-mail accounts...
And, BTW...The answer given by the person who suggested to change the order in the inbox was MUCH MORE CORRECT, yet still insufficient, since it did not specify HOW TO KEEP THE ACCOUNTS IN THAT ORDER
The question was how to make one address the default. The answer was to go to preferences. If you have a different question, start a new thread.
