moving user folder in Mavericks

I'm trying to move my BIG user folder from my small SSD onto a 1 TB drive.

I attempted the obvious ... just dragging it to make a copy of it on the 1 TB drive ... but after entering my Admin password, it fails, saying, "The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access “.localized”.'

I recall that in the past I was able to move the user folder by copying and pasting a small block of terminal commands but this doesn't appear to work in Mavericks?

I can move the inividual items such as my Aperture library and iTunes but I share this machine with three other people making all of these moves a real pain!

Can anyone help me find a simple way to do this, please?

Thanks, in advance!
