Your information is just as secure on your iPad, as it is on your Mac, and in the cloud. I assume you password protect your computer and your tablet. And your Apple ID is password protected also.

You don't. Local syncing via iTunes of data like contacts, bookmarks, calendars, etc. is no longer supported with Mavericks:

Not with Mavericks, USB and WiFi syncing of Contacts, Calendars, etc. is no longer supported with 10.9.

Absolutely right David. I missed that in the OP's profile.

Looks like manually entering your contacts is the only way if you insist on not using some kind of cloud service.

Stuck in the same boat. Had I known about this 'undocumented feature' I would have never upgraded the hardware and software...

So what is the option w/the server? How would that work...how could we synch our info w/o the cloud?

That is a simple description of the server itself. Having the server sounds like it might be a work around, albeit a pia fix because I only have 1 device that needs to synch to one computer... but if it will work then I'll give it a try. Have you actually done this - because what I want to prevent is getting through all the set up only to learn Mavericks Server has similar limitations...

It works and not just for one. It's a solution and it's up to you to decide.

This is only $20 dollars investment, even some games cost more that that.

I'll give it a go. Wish there were someone reading this message who ran into the same issues and used the Mavericks server as a work-around to confirm or for tips, guidance. Might be easy.

WHY do I need to use iCloud....I don't want my data on any cloud I want a direct sync connection from my computer to my iPhone or iPod. I don't want to use SyncMate either it's another cloud based solution and who knows who they are. What happened to the direct connect? Does APPLE really need my data? Or are they selling everyones data to the alphabet soup agencies just like Goggle does?
