How do I sync my contacts on my Macbook Pro to my iPad without using the cloud?


I don't want my contacts on the cloud... it's a security thing.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), OS X Mavericks (10.9)

That is a simple description of the server itself. Having the server sounds like it might be a work around, albeit a pia fix because I only have 1 device that needs to synch to one computer... but if it will work then I'll give it a try. Have you actually done this - because what I want to prevent is getting through all the set up only to learn Mavericks Server has similar limitations...

WHY do I need to use iCloud....I don't want my data on any cloud I want a direct sync connection from my computer to my iPhone or iPod. I don't want to use SyncMate either it's another cloud based solution and who knows who they are. What happened to the direct connect? Does APPLE really need my data? Or are they selling everyones data to the alphabet soup agencies just like Goggle does?
