Q: I tried to migrate my account from on iMAC to another, both running Maverick. I migrated using a Time Machine backup. The files were transferred but no account was set up on the receiving system.

I backed up the one iMAC using Time Machine, then used migration assistant to move it to the second iMAC. During the migration I selected keep both accounts but once the migration was complete only the original account on the receiver was available for login.

Bot machines had been updated to Maverick.

Any idea what happened to the migration?

No idea what happened but I wonder why you are adding TIme Machine to the workflow?

You can simply Migrate from one Mac to the other over the network or via Target Disk Mode.

Open Migration Assistant on both Macs if you use the network.

The two MACs are 1600 miles apart. I brought the backup disk from the original to the one I wanted to copy to.

I gave up on trying to migrate as well as save the original account on the second MAC and just migrated from a cold boot. That migration worked flawessly but I would like to know why the original attempt failed to create a second account

…eek that would be a long Firewire lead.

    There should be logs.

Take a look through the Console, see if you can find any Migration Assistant logs. It may have info otherwise the installer may indicate if it couldn't launch MA etc.
