I just bought a used ipad 2 with a keyboard case for school and I'm looking for a word compatible app for ipad.
Needs: has to be word compatible, work with dropbox, any price, run smoothly with and without internet

Look into Documents to Go. I believe the premium version works with Dropbox (although I have the regular so I can't swear to it)
It works very well off line and maintains regular word formatting.
